Special Election to Fill Vacancies

Special Election will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, to Fill the Vacancies of

Two (2) Council members             -Term ending December 31, 2025

One (1) Council member               - Term ending December 31, 2027

One (1) Mayor                                   - Term ending December 31, 2025

Eligible Candidates may pick up candidate guidebook and nomination papers from the Wayne County Auditor’s Office Monday – Friday, 8AM-4PM at temporary location: First Floor of The Brick (Formerly known as The Corydon American Legion).

Friday, July 5, 2024, @ 5pm is the Candidate Filing Deadline with the Wayne County Auditor’s Office.

Absentee ballot request forms may be submitted now for an absentee ballot to be mailed.

Wednesday, July 10, 2024, is the first day absentee ballots may be mailed or voted in the Auditor’s Office if available and the first day to publish the Public Notice of Election.

Monday, July 15, 2024, @ 5PM is the last day an eligible elector can pre-register for this election and the last day to request an absentee ballot to be mailed.

Monday, July 29, 2024 @ 4PM is the last day to vote an absentee ballot in-person at the Auditor’s Office.

Tuesday, July 30, 2024, Election Day

Polling location: Allerton Civic Center

Polling Hours: 7AM to 8PM.

Tuesday, August 6, 2024, County Canvass of Special Election

Newly Elected Council and Mayor will be sworn in within 10 days of County Canvass Friday, August 16th.

 

**Per Iowa Code Section 372.13A the Wayne County Auditor is directed to make payments for fixed charges without prior approval of the council and will submit a report for the city council to review and approve once a quorum of the council is present.
